Privacy policy
§ 1Summary
The only personal data this site collects is what you type into the contact and error report forms. It has no accounts and no tracking. It does not load analytics, advertising or social media scripts, and it sets no cookies of its own. Fonts are served from the site itself, so reading a page sends nothing to a third-party font provider.
§ 2What the server sees
Like any web server, the hosting provider receives your IP address, the page you request and your browser details when you load a page. This is needed to deliver the page and to keep it secure. Hosting logs are kept for a short period set by the provider, and the provider is named on the legal notice once chosen.
§ 3Data stored on your device
If you switch to the dark theme, that choice is saved in your browser's local storage, and so is your answer to the cookie banner with its date, for twelve months. Neither is sent to a server.
§ 4Forms and email you send us
If you use the contact or error report form, or write to the editors, the form service of our hosting provider receives your name (if given), email address and message and passes them to the editors. We use your message and address only to answer you and to log a correction when your report leads to one. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering readers and keeping the handbook accurate. We keep correspondence for as long as needed to handle the report, and no longer than the period set out once the publisher is named.
§ 5Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation you can ask for access to, correction of or deletion of personal data we hold, object to its use, and complain to your data protection authority. In Spain that is the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos. Contact details for the data controller are on the legal notice page.
§ 6Changes
If analytics or any other service is added, this policy and the cookie policy are updated first, and consent is requested before anything non-essential loads.
