How we research and correct

By the Propertinspain editorsReviewed by Marta Calderón IbáñezPublished Updated

§ 1Which sources count

Statements about rules, rates, dates and deadlines rest on primary sources: the Boletín Oficial del Estado and regional gazettes, the tax agencies, the Land Registry, the Cadastre, the notaries' council, the Bank of Spain, the National Statistics Institute, Spanish courts and EU law. Law firm articles, property portals, news and forum posts are used to find questions and are never the only support for a claim.

§ 2The three checks

Every figure, date and rule is entered in a claim register with three checks. First, the writer checks it against the primary source and records the section and the date. Second, an independent source or a second official text confirms it. Third, someone other than the writer re-checks it against the live source before publication.

Each page shows a seal with the state of these checks. "Sources checked" means the first two checks are done for the figures on the page; "Checked" with a name and a date means the editor has also signed the page off. A claim that fails a check is not printed.

§ 3Writers and the source editor

Each page names its writer and its source editor, with a short description of what they read and what they cover. The source editor checks the figures against the official text and keeps the claim register. They are well-read researchers, not lawyers or tax advisers, and the pages say so. No writer or editor receives a commission from any referral.

§ 4Dates and updates

Each page shows the date it was last updated. Pages that track a rule in motion carry a "What changed" log, and every change to a rule, rate or status is listed on the updates page. Rates are checked at least quarterly, and any gazette change, court ruling or tax agency notice triggers an immediate check of the affected claims.

§ 5Examples and estimates

Worked examples are marked with a dotted underline and called illustrative. They show how a calculation works with stated assumptions and are not quotes, forecasts or rates.

§ 6Errors and corrections

If something is wrong or out of date, write through the contact page. Each report receives a dated reply, and a confirmed correction is logged on the updates page with the source that supports it.
