PropertinspainBuying in Spain from abroad

About this handbook

By the Propertinspain editorsReviewed by Marta Calderón IbáñezPublished Updated

Propertinspain explains how buying a home in Spain works for people who live somewhere else. It is written for readers weighing a large purchase, who may read English as a second language and who want to understand a rule before they pay for it.

§ 1What it covers

The chapters are organised in six stages: deciding, budgeting, choosing where and what, checking and contracting, owning and selling, and renting out. A section is published only when its facts have been checked against official sources. Alongside the chapters there is a blog of longer notes on single narrow questions; each post links to the chapters that hold the underlying rules.

§ 2Who publishes it

The publisher's identity and contact details are on the legal notice page.

§ 3How it is funded

The site carries no advertising, no affiliate links and no referral fees. Before any commercial link is added, a disclosure page will be published and the activity will be checked against the rules that apply to mortgage intermediation, insurance mediation and currency services in Spain. Referral fees from estate agents or lawyers are refused, because they would compromise the pages that tell you to use an independent lawyer.

§ 4What it is not

It is not a law firm, an estate agency, a lender or a government body, and it gives no personal advice. The editorial policy explains how pages are checked and corrected.
